Cloud Slam Event - Helping To Lower CO2 Emmissions

By Cloud Slam Team - Posted on 08 February 2010

While we don't know exactly how many CO2 are emitted into the air as part of a physical conference, we are pretty sure our virtual event stacks up pretty well. However, CO2 savings are not the only measures virtual events can stack up against.

Virtual Events By the Numbers:

Average archived days: 90
Average registration: 3,102
Average attendance: 1,587
Show Up Rate: 52%
Leads Generated per Sponsor:348
Average Attendee Interactions: 13
Average Downloads per attendee: 5
U.S. Attendees: 58%
International Attendees: 42%
Source: Unisfair

Other factors that play a significant role in the popularity of virtual events are: flexibility for everyone involved; in-line with how Generation Next operates; and easy access and dissemination of information. Much information is available online; we found this particular article informative.

Are there factors that speak against virtual events? Yes, of course. For example, our attendees from last year were missing more hands on experiences with the technology presented. Additionally, our attendees expressed that the social interaction that happens in a physical conference is difficult to establish in a virtual event. Those are common comments and the virtual events establishment is looking at creative ways to address it. For example, our event features this year hands on labs that provide the opportunity for attendees to get a touch and feel experience with the technology a particular vendor offers.

We have some work ahead of us to meet the demands of our attendees, sponsors, media partners, and the demand we put on ourselves, however, we are very pleased that we can contribute to reducing CO2 omissions, provide the most up to date Cloud Computing content, and to be part of the growing and exiting virtual event community.
